I have decided that our incredible original Constitution has run its course…too many people have learned how to game it…it needs to be revised and updated with modern thinking and language.
Our government has become dysfunctional and is approaching total paralysis. Even if our government never achieves total gridlock, it is so bogged down in politics that is like having a huge weight on our backs. It is difficult to move forward when you spend most of your efforts holding up the weight.
The original Constitution has guided us for over 200 years and has created a nation of amazing historic proportions, but our original Constitution is old and creaky and it is now holding us back. It is time for us to take the next step up the ladder…it is time to move on with an evolutionary, not revolutionary, upgrade.
What makes me think I am qualified to father the New Constitution? Nothing…I just happened to think of it and decided I would do it. I am not a scholar or a legal expert. Maybe this turns out to be just an exercise in discussing our options and our future. You be the judge.
Is the New Constitution perfect? That is a laugher…there is no such thing. At best, what we think is perfect today is not perfect tomorrow. The New Constitution may be the best we have at this point in time, but I have even put a 100 year sunset clause in it knowing it will also need an overhaul down the line; in the interim, the New Constitution can still be amended just like the original can be amended today.
In the New Constitution’s current state, it needs the review and input of The People. It needs analysis by people with unique backgrounds and thought patterns to improve it before it is released on January 1, 2012, for approval by The People. You and I are proud Americans with unique backgrounds and thought patterns. We live under a Constitution which guarantees our right to express our opinions. I am expressing mine and I hope you will express yours. And, when I stop and think about it, why shouldn’t any person on Earth be able to discuss it? Someone out there, somewhere else on Earth, might have an idea that would be very helpful. In the end, the Citizens of the United States will still have the final vote.
Here as some of the things we all need to look at in the New Constitution:
- Practical political philosophy
- Punctuation
- Grammar and wording
- Legal problems
- Easy of understanding
- How could people “game” the New Constitution
- Governmental organization and internal relationships
- Document organization of the New Constitution
- Rights of the People
- Balance of powers
Anything you can think of that would improve the document and the American way of life is fair game and is needed.
Will I use all of your suggestions? Probably not but I will give honest, thoughtful and respectful opinions honest, thoughtful, and respectful consideration. I will guarantee you that your comments will have impact on me because I will respect your opinion.
Unlike our original Constitution which was written by committee of 74 men, the New Constitution is being written by one hand with thoughtful input from all. After your review and input, I will publish the New Constituion in its final, unamendable form for an up or down vote (just like the original). It will also be published with an Amendment to our original Constitution which will cause the original Constitution to be replaced by the New Constitution.
